A History of the W. C. Brown Companies.

Dubuque: Wm. C. Brown Communications, 1992. Paperback. 8vo. Stiff glazed pictorial wrappers. xiii, 288pp. Illustrations. Very good. Item #27515
ISBN: 0697275728

Tight, nice first edition of this educational publishing company history, handsomely inscribed by the author on blue ballpoint on the title page to noted photographer Archie Lieberman (1926-2008) of "Farm Boy" fame: "For / Archie & Esther / With deepest / appreciation for your / Interest, Support / friendship / Counsel / WPeterson / 10/7/94." Laid in is a business-size envelope addressed to the Liebermans and initialed by Peterson at upper left, above the University of Dubuque (of which he was chancellor) logo. Interestingly, laid in is a small printed slip noting that "William C. Brown developed the attractive, durable 'perfect bound' textbook for use in higher education. The first printing of the company history is 'perfect bound' in recognition of an innovation that revolutionized the industry" -- ironic, for "perfect bound" books have proven over the years anything but perfect!
