Ink-and-Crayon Signed Sketch. Helen FLETCHER.

Ink-and-Crayon Signed Sketch.

English artist. Original ink and crayon sketch signed with initials, 1p, heavy stock 6 3/4" X 4¼" sheet tipped to slightly larger sheet, n.p., n.d. [mid 19th century]. Near fine. Charming, rather primitive scene showing four horseback riders (two sidesaddle ladies) halted at a fork in the road, asking directions from several figures standing outside a wee cottage. "Equestrian = 'Which is the road to Liphook?'" and the reply "'Straight hon'" reads the caption. We have come up empty-handed in further identifying Fletcher, but this is a quaint rural scene nonetheless. Item #25987
