Front wrapper notes, "On the occasion of the Civil War Centennial we are proud to offer these two prints of Abraham Lincoln and Robert E. Lee... reproduced from original wood engravings by the eminent American artist, Bernard Brussel-Smith." Inside facing pages contain striking two-tone (black and tan, giving a sepia appearance) engraved portraits, Lincoln at left and Lee at right. Two laid in leaves (rectos only) feature facsimiles of the original Hartford Fire Insurance Company policies issued to Abraham Lincoln (1861) and Robert E. Lee (1859). Brussel-Smith (1914-89) was a New York artist who in his heyday of the 1940s and '50s was considered America's foremost wood engraver.
