Popular illustrator whose landscapes and religious scenes have graced many magazine covers; the Smithsonian Institution commissioned him to paint 23 watercolors of their various buildings, now permanently displayed in the original Smithsonian building; author of "Drawing Landscapes in Pencil." Signed First Day Cover, 6½" X 3½", cancelled in Washington, DC on 10 April 1980 and with "First Day of Issue" boldly stamped. Single 15-cent Petrie-designed "Frances Perkins" stamp at upper right. Fine. No decorative cachet at left; no distracting recipient's name/address. At lower left, in black fineline. Petrie signs large and bold.
