This American railroad innovator rose up through the ranks of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad until he was in charge of all design at the Chicago & Northwestern Railway, in which capacity he introduced many improvements to locomotive construction and designed the "Tilton locomotive," considered one of the finest locomotives of its day; he died, fittingly, after a railroad accident. Handsome signature in purple fountain pen, heavy stock 3½" X 2" card, n.p., n.y. Very good. Faint age toning; mounting traces on verso. Item #24609
