Typed Letter Signed.

The "Chicago Daily News" long-time literary editor (1915-45) was syndicated widely, so his views and reviews on bookish topics became well known and highly regarded; he was also a noted radio book-talk personality and guest panelist; he edited many volumes, including many of the WPA state guides. TLS, 1p, 8½" X 11", New York, NY, 1962 February 26. Addressed to noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar Arnold Gates (1914-93). Very good. On letterhead of "The World Almanac," Hansen chats about the New York Civil War Round Table, of which Gates was an officer. Two lines crossed out by him and amended. Handsome, bold signature. Accompanied by a nice facsimile of Gene Markey's delightful caricature of Hansen (as it appears in his 1923 compilation "Literary Lights: A Book of Caricatures"), with the caption "Harry Hansen glances over a publisher's list."
